The City of Boulder, in coordination with Congressman Jared Polis, are sponsoring a Congressional field hearing on energy titled:
Strengthening the Economy and Protecting the Environment: A 21st Century Community Approach!
Looking through the prism of national goals and policies, the field hearing will bring attention to the ways that a community can economically benefit when it moves toward energy sustainability comprehensively through the integration of transportation, land use, and housing practices. In the process, it will provide ideas on how the federal government can best partner with these communities.
The field hearing will consist of two panels testifying before Congressman Jared Polis and his special guests: Senator Michael Bennet and one or more senior Administration officials. The first panel will center on local perspectives that showcase innovations in energy sustainability and associated challenges. The second panel will concentrate on national perspectives on the opportunities and obstacles for federal support to replicate and integrate these initiatives across the country.
Speakers and panelists testifying at the hearing will include: former Colorado Governor Bill Ritter, Director of Colorado State University’s Center for the New Energy Economy and Senior Scholar with CSU’s School of Global Environmental Sustainability; Lakshman Guruswamy, Director of Center for Energy & Environmental Security and Nicholas Doman Professor of International Environmental Law at CU; Susan Osborne, Mayor of the City of Boulder; David Driskell, Executive Director of Community Planning and Sustainability, City of Boulder; John LoPorto, President & CEO, Power Tagging Technologies; Bill Holicky, Senior Architect at Coburn Development; Will Toor, Boulder County Commissioner; Ash Awad, Vice President – Energy & Facility Services, McKinstry; Michelle Wyman, Executive Director, Applied Solutions; and TJ Deora, Director, Colorado Governor’s Energy Office.
While there will be no public input taken at the hearing, it is open to the public. However, since there are limited seats available you will need to register by clicking here and following the directions. Please note that while there is no charge to attend the hearing, there is a charge for parking on campus.
