A new citizen sampling study has found plutonium in breathable form at two locations near the site of the defunct Rocky Flats nuclear bomb plant. This has profound implications for planned public recreation at the Rocky Flats wildlife refuge as well as for people who live or work downwind of Rocky Flats or who are downwind of Los Alamos where DOE plans to continue the work once done at Rocky Flats. Environmentalist LeRoy Moore, PhD, is a consultant with the Rocky Mountain Peace and Justice Center. Rep. Wes McKinley was foreman of the grand jury that spent nearly three years examining evidence of environmental lawbreaking at Rocky Flats after the 1989 FBI raid of the plant. Kristen Iversen is author of the prize-winning Molly Brown: Unraveling the Myth as well as of the forthcoming Full Body Burden: Growing Up in the Shadow of Rocky Flats. Sheri Kotowski lives downwind of the Los Alamos Lab in NM and is the lead investigator of the Embudo Valley Monitoring Group.
