My mother is a diabetic. One of my sisters is, too. My father died from complications related to diabetes. Two cousins have died from it and several others have the disease. So, I’ve been around the disease and it isn’t pretty. Latinos are disproportionately affected and are specifically targeted by soda company advertisements. One out of every three children born after 2000 in the United States will be directly affected by diabetes, for Latinos that number is one in two. All of this makes it personal for me and why I voted YES on 2H!
