You’re Invited to the Community Energy Fair!

By

Learn how to take climate action in your communities and in your homes on Saturday, June 25 from 8 am to 3 pm at the Second Annual Community Energy Fair in Central Park—right next to the Farmers Market! Join Clean Energy Action and local nonprofits fighting against fossil fuels and for investments in renewable energy along with solar, battery, efficiency and electric vehicle (bikes and cars!) providers and others for a celebration of clean energy.

In the past six months we have witnessed some momentous events for climate action from the international to the local level: a global agreement to address climate change in Paris in December of last year, a federal moratorium on new coal leases on public land imposed by the Obama administration in January, Oregon signing a bill to rid itself of coal power in March, and protests to end federal oil and gas leasing here in Lakewood in May.

You’ll have the opportunity to learn about these encouraging developments in detail from global energy expert Hunter Lovins of Natural Capitalism Solutions. Ken Regelson of EnergyShouldBe.org will show how communities can achieve 100% renewable electricity. Luke Straka from the Colorado Latino Leadership, Research and Advocacy Organization will share that organization’s efforts to support the Clean Power Plan. NREL’s Chuck Kutscher will return to the fair this year to present the latest science behind climate change. Other speakers will address how to stop fossil fuel development and rapidly phase out coal power in Colorado.

For families and children, there will be arts and crafts, a Capture the Coal Plant field game, and cookies baked by the sun in a solar oven. A fleet of energy-generating bikes will show visitors just how much power it takes to charge various devices by pedaling. From free activities for families to meeting nationally recognized experts to learning about the businesses that are providing the next wave of clean energy technologies, the fair promises to energize the first Saturday after the summer solstice. We hope that you’ll join us!
